Audrey C. Scott
Hello! My name is Audrey, a Class of 2022 student majoring in International Studies and Comparative Literature and Culture at UIC. Growing up Korean-American in the heart of the American South, I have always found myself navigating between diverse cultures, languages, and identities. Writing, for me, became an essential bridge that has allowed me to connect, express, and explore the nuances of my life and culture. I believe writing is more than just a skill; it is a powerful tool that helps us understand ourselves and the world around us. It allows us to communicate our most intricate thoughts and emotions, transforming abstract ideas into tangible expressions. Yet, mastering writing can be challenging and often overwhelming. This is exactly why the Writing Center exists—to support you in honing your writing abilities through consistent practice and personalized guidance. If you ever feel stuck with your essays, whether in developing arguments, refining your style, or clarifying your thesis, I am here to provide the support and insights you need to move forward confidently.
Humaira Hafsa Tashfee
Hi everyone! I am Humaira, a junior majoring in Economics and CTM. Writing, for me, is a way of putting scattered thoughts together and turning them into something meaningful. Across different classrooms and cultures, I have realized that every writer has a unique thought process and writing style. Because of this, I believe tutoring is more than just correcting words on a page. It is more about building clarity and confidence through conversations. My goal is to encourage everyone to try new ideas and discover their own voice to make their writing more authentic. With that in mind, I hope our conversations can help you organize your thoughts, find your personal style, and make the writing process more rewarding for you!
Hwang Seung Cha
My name is Hwan Seung, and I'm a senior student majoring in Justice and Civil Leadership, as well as Comparative Literature and Culture. I love film, experimental music, graphic novels, and, of course, writing. It's a pleasure to have joined the Yonsei Writing Center and be able to work with you all! Contrary to what the brooding wordsmiths of the past might have led us to believe, writing is not the secluded, solitary activity that it initially appears to be. In fact, I am a staunch subscriber of the merits of a second opinion, and it is my wish to be that second opinion for aspiring scholars such as you. Whether you find yourself teetering on the cusp of a remarkable revelation, or feel as if the page has become an antagonist that you have to wrestle and interrogate, the Yonsei Writing Center just might be the final nudge you need to see your ideas in a whole new light. If you're ready to write with confidence, clarity, and wit—make the words work for you, not against—then don't hesitate to come knocking on our doors. It’s time to write something clever!
Minkyoung Kim
Hi everyone! My name is Minkyoung, but I also go by Minky. I'm a 23.5 student majoring in Comparative Literature and Culture and International Studies. Writing has always been an important part of my life. In elementary school, I wrote short stories; in middle school, my first essays and journal entries; and in high school, my first research papers. Now, in university, I've found ways to write all three. Along the way, my majors have shown me how the same story can change depending on the language, culture, or politics that tell it. Through these experiences, I've learned that writing can be incredibly private and fun but also essential to connecting with and understanding the world around us. Working through so many different writing processes has taught me how satisfying it is to watch something that once existed only in your head become real and shareable. That is why I love writing, and I hope to help you fall in love with it too. Writing is difficult, but with practice, time, and support, it gets easier. I look forward to meeting you all and working through the process together!
Dong-uk Kim
My name is Kim Dong-uk, a senior majoring in Political Science and International Relations. Reading is one of my great joys; I am incredibly excited to be able to read the fantastic works all of you have written, and to discuss this infinitely rewarding act with you in the UIC Writing Center. Writing, like any practice, can only improve with time and dedication—a tedious effort that is unfortunately not that interesting. Especially as Artificial Intelligence offers students a cheap replacement—a “solution”—to the labor of writing, my goal is to reassure you that this seemingly impossible effort to improve an essay is only done one word at a time. Writing in all its supposed glory, is our most basic practice of creation, which makes our dread of it even more ridiculous. Your great ideas are only as good as the words that constitute them—hopefully we can work together to find those words. Within this academic, collaborative space of the university, writing is so much more interesting to me as a labor of community. Hence, I believe that fostering a safe and productive environment that reflects the passions we all have as a community is essential. See you there!
